Monty Don has given an update about the future of his beloved BBC series, Big Dreams, Small Spaces – and fans have responded to the news.

The horticulturist, who is also adored for his work on his flagship show Gardeners' World, appeared on BBC Radio 2 on Thursday with Zoe Ball, where he revealed whether more episodes of the show, which last aired in 2017, were on the horizon.

Monty explained to Zoe: "There are no plans, but I would love to. If anyone from the BBC is listening to that, myself and the production team would love to do more Big Dreams, Small Spaces. We've been asking the BBC about it for a number of years so watch this space. But as of yet, I am afraid not."
Monty's appearance on the radio prompted a number of fans to tweet the presenter echoing the desire for the programme to return. One fan responded to Monty's tweet about his appearance on the radio, stating: "I listened to the show this morning and was pleased to hear that others hoped for a new Small Spaces gardening series. Not having seen all those I'm now hoping to find them somewhere to brighten up these winter afternoons."

Another said: "Loved listening to you with @ZoeTheBall. Brightened up a very damp dog walk. Just want to add my voice to those hoping for a return of big dreams small spaces. Happy New Year!"
It's not the first time fans have called for the programme to return. Back in December, Monty's post on social media of an interview with The Guardian prompted a fan to write: "Monty is the best!! The World wants Big Dreams, Small Spaces back… come on BBC! Please… pretty please!"
Meanwhile, Monty has been busy working on his brand new show, Adriatic Gardens, which starts on Friday on BBC Two and sees the presenter travel the Adriatic coast exploring beautiful scenery and gardens in stunning hotspots including Venice, Croatia and Greece.
