Chicago PD fans face disappointment after unfortunate news

Chicago PD has been forced to halt filming after several reported cases of coronavirus. 

Deadline reported that the surge in infections fueled by the Omicron variant has meant the popular police drama has been paused.

The outlet says there have been "a couple of dozen," positive tests from crew and cast members.

Season 9 resumed filming after a break for the holidays but will now have to stop while those infected isolate. 

This isn't the first of the Chicago franchise shows to have a hiccup in their schedule due to COVID-19.

Chicago Fire similarly paused production last Wednesday and is due to resume this week, while Chicago Med has managed to keep on going without incident.

Season nine filming of Chicago PD has been halted

As Chicago PD pauses, many other shows are gearing up to hopefully get back to set.

NCIS, The Rookie, and Grey's Anatomy were suspended after breakouts of the virus in the new year. 

While Grey's and spinoff Station 19 were expected to resume production on 12 January, it's still not known when The Rookie will start up again.

Fans will be eager for the show to get back set 

"Further production delays and shutdowns across Hollywood TV production are expected even with most casts and crews fully vaccinated as the Omicron variant has been causing an unprecedented number of breakthrough infections."

Deadline reported. "Studios are currently monitoring the situation and awaiting more testing data before making decisions on how to proceed."
