In the final episode, we saw some tension between Anne Lister and her wife Ann Walker, who faced opposition from Ann's brother-in-law Captain Sutherland, who tried to block her attempts to change her will and divide the Crow Nest estate.

Anne's own business ventures and her excessive money borrowing from her wife led Ann to worry that she was being exploited, causing more trouble between them. "I am your wife when it's convenient… but when it comes to [meeting] your aristocratic people, I'm an inconvenience," Ann told her wife.
However, thankfully, by the end of the episode, all seems well as Anne and Ann managed to reconcile and despite Captain Sutherland's best efforts to stop them, he had no choice but to sign the deeds and allow Ann to divide her estate.

It was one scene between Anne and her sister Marian, however, that left fans needing another season. Earlier on in the season, Anne made it clear that she would want nothing more to do with Marian if she married her fiancée, Mr Abbott, believing that she was marrying beneath her.
Anne and Ann reconciled in the final moments
Towards the end of the final episode, however, Marian told her sister that it was over between her and Abbott and that she would be moving back to the family's estate in Market Weighton. She then admitted that Abbott had called the engagement off after being taunted with the marriage announcement in the paper about Anne and Ann.
Fans took to Twitter to comment on the heartbreaking scene, with one person writing: "Aww I felt so sorry for Marian. She's not asking for much," while another called for a third season: "Oh Marian. We need a series three bc she DESERVES someone decent to give her the marriage and family she wants."
Fans were keen to learn of Marian's fate
A third fan added: "So I want to know, did Marian really leave Shibden?" while another called for a spin-off series: "I would be absolutely thrilled with a Marian spin-off."
