Jules Hudson is back on our screens in a new series of Channel 5's loved series, Winter on the Farm, in which he and Helen Skelton host a week of wintery shows from south Yorkshire. The 54-year-old is a familiar face thanks to his long-standing TV career and is perhaps best known for his appearances on the popular daytime show, Escape to the Country

But how much do you know about his life behind the scenes? Find out more about his lovely family here...

Jules' home life in Herefordshire

When he's not busy filming in rural areas of the UK for the BBC and Channel 5, Jules can be found at home in Herefordshire, where he owns a five-bedroom period property that boasts two acres of land.

Jules and his wife Tania bought their home in 2012 for £610,000 before spending around £100,000 on a renovation, doing extensive work on the roof, the wiring and the plumbing, according to an interview with The Times in 2020.

Opening up about country living, Jules said in the opening of his book, The Escape to the Country Handbook: "Country life may not always be easier and cheaper but in my experience, it could be the most rewarding undertaking any of us might make."

Speaking to The Times, Jules revealed that he found London "very claustrophobic". "There's an energy about it that I absolutely love, but I need green fields and space," explained the star. "But west Wales was a long way from anywhere. We literally lived at either end of the M4. I was keen for another chapter. I’d done mid-Wales and I wanted to try something else."

"We knew what we were looking for — something with space, something with outbuildings," the presenter said of his and Tania's search for their perfect home. "And having its own plot was really important to me. Having that little cushion around you is the thing for me. After the B&B and boarding school, my own space is very important."

Jules likes to keep his family out of the spotlight, so rarely shares photos of his wife and son. However, back in March, Jules shared an adorable snap of his little boy wearing a helmet whilst standing on a jetty and happily posing next to a boat. In the caption, the presenter penned: "A big smile for a great day from this one!"

Jules previously opened up about Jack's birth in an Instagram post from 2019 to mark World Prematurity Day. "So pleased to join the gang at Hereford Hospital to support World Prematurity Day," he penned alongside a photo taken with the staff at the hospital. "Thank you all again for saving our baby boy Jack. 5 years on and he's growing up fast!"

Jules previously opened up about fatherhood whilst chatting with his Escape to the Country co-star and friend Nicki Chapman in 2021 on the Talking Success podcast. When asked to name his "best moment ever", Jules sweetly responded: "I think probably when my son Jack finally recognised that I was his father and made a noise and looked at me with his eyes that said to me I finally have a role in this relationship. He was probably 18 months or something."

He went on to reveal that having children wasn't "on his radar" but having Jack has been "one of life's greatest revelations". "To be honest with you, I never looked forward to having children it wasn't on my radar at all," he said. "But having Jack now and watching life unfold through the prism of his eyes and his mind and helping him learn about the world around him and understanding how we learn has been one of life's greatest revelations to me."

Jules' work-life balance

Like many working parents, Jules finds it "tricky' to balance his career with his home life. "Anybody with any busy life will tell you that the balance between your working life and family life can be tricky," he told The Express last year. "I've got a young son, we've got our own life here in Herefordshire that is very dear to us, so you know, trying to balance it all can be difficult but it's a partnership, it's a team effort through the family.

"We all understand it, we have mortgages to pay and bills to pay and all the rest of it, it is our working life. It's not easy but that's the trouble every family in the country faces let's be honest, you just have to work hard and play," he added.
