Ella Bruccoleri left fans devastated when she stepped away from her role as Sister Frances on the BBC drama series, Call the Midwife

The actress, who left the show last year, has gone on to land both small and big screen roles since her departure and was most recently cast in the reboot of the American horror film franchise, The Strangers.

While the original film, which was released in 2008, became a cult classic, the second film received mixed reviews following its premiere ten years later.

The upcoming movie has been revived by Lionsgate, which intends to release a trilogy of films in the coming years, with the first set to premiere in 2023.

Ella plays the role of Jasmine in the film, appearing alongside Riverdale actress Madelaine Petsch, who stars as Maya, as well as Teen Wolf actor Froylan Gutierrez, The Night Agent's Gabriel Basso and All Creatures Great and Small star Rachel Shenton.

The plot focuses on a young couple (Petsch and Gutierrez) who set off on a cross-country road trip to begin a new life in the Pacific Northwest. When their car breaks down in Venus, Oregon, they're forced to spend the night in a secluded Airbnb, where they are terrorised from dusk till dawn by three masked strangers.

Ella's Call the Midwife character bid farewell to Nonnatus House at the end of season 11, which saw the midwife sent away to Chichester to recover from an injury she sustained after falling from her bike.

The Sister Frances actress isn't the only cast member to have left the popular BBC period drama in recent months. Leonie Elliott confirmed her exit in February, making series 12 her last as Nurse Lucille Anderson.

In a statement posted to Instagram, she thanked fans for "embracing" her character, saying she would be leaving the show to "embark on pastures new".

"Having spent six years on a truly wonderful show, with a fantastic team I have fallen deeper and deeper in love with Lucille," she said, adding: "I feel honoured to have represented the pioneering Windrush generation and their incredible impact on British society."
