BBC Breakfast stars Naga Munchetty and Charlie Stayt shared a slightly awkward exchange while hosting the current affairs programme on Thursday.

The pair were chatting to Carol Kirkwood, who was reporting the weather forecast from The Butterfly House at Blenheim Palace, when Charlie asked her to summon the butterflies with a call.

"I can try," responded Carol before proceeding to call out to the butterflies. "Here, butterflies! Come over here," she said, prompting Naga to say: "Carol, you can say no!"

"I know but it's such a spoilsport thing to do!" replied the weather presenter.

Charlie then added: "It didn't work did it?" while Naga agreed: "You're not very popular with the butterflies."

"Gee, thanks Naga," joked Carol, prompting the journalist to thank her colleague for the report. "It's been really fascinating, actually," said Naga. "We've learnt a lot this morning."

When the cameras panned back to the studio, Charlie couldn't help commenting on the segment, saying: "Nothing awkward about that, was there?

Naga looked a little unimpressed but carried on with the show, introducing the next news bulletin. Watch the moment in the video below.

One viewer picked up on the tense moment and took to Twitter, writing: "Charlie and Naga always beefing, the fact they haven't separated them yet must be purely for the drama #BBCBreakfast."

While some fans of the show have previously commented on the "spikey relationship" between the pair, others have praised their on-screen relationship.

"Great banter between Naga and Charlie," one person wrote on Twitter earlier this month, while another added: "Charlie and Naga are too much! They're like brother and sister."

Despite the opinion of some viewers, the hosts clearly enjoy a friendship outside of work and were even pictured enjoying a pint together outside a pub in Manchester earlier this month.
