9-1-1 Lone Star was named Best Drama Series at the 2023 GLAAD Media Awards on Thursday March 30, and the show's leading LGBTQ+ men were on hand to accept the award and give a beautiful tribute to their peers.
"WE WON OUTSTANDING DRAMA SERIES AT THE 34TH ANNUAL #GLAADAWARDS ! Thank you @GLAAD ! This was truly a surreal moment, one that I will cherish forever," wrote Ronen Rubinstein, who stars as paramedic TK Strand.
Sarah Michelle Gellar handed the trio their award, and Brian Michael Smith gave a speech that left many in tears as he spoke of the very real and political threats that are facing the gay and trans communities.
"Moments like these are a light in dark times for our community," said Brian, who stars as firefighter Paul Strickland in the Fox drama. Brian came out as a trans man in 2017 after acting for many years.
"In a deep field of beautiful, authentic and impact shows, @911lonestar won Outstanding Drama Series at last night’s @glaad Media Awards. I’m incredibly grateful to GLAAD not only for the recognition of our show, but for the work they do to ensure the representation of LGBTQ+ people in media is fair, authentic and inclusive," he wrote on Instagram alongside a picture of him and co-stars Ronen Rubinstein and Rafael Silva.

Brian was joined on the red carpet by his wife, whom he has been married to for over eight years while Ronen and his wife Jessica Parker Kennedy - who wed in August 2022 - were joined by Rafael, who stars as police officer Carlos Reyes.
