Matthew McConaughey could front the new Yellowstone spin-off, according to Paramount boss, Chris McCarthy. During an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, the CEO confirmed that an extension of the Yellowstone franchise is currently in the works, following the success of spin-offs 1883 and 1923.
As for Matthew McConaughey's role in the upcoming series, Chris explained that the A-lister is still in negotiations with Yellowstone co-creator Taylor Sheridan. According to The Hollywood Reporter, no deal has officially been reached, though talks are taking place.

Paramount president Chris has also confirmed that the Yellowstone spin-off will move forward regardless of whether Kevin Costner returns to the original. Back in February, it was reported that the 68-year-old could be leaving Yellowstone as a result of scheduling conflicts.
Responding to the rumours, Paramount Network released an official statement, that read: "We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that's the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we'd love to partner."
In the meantime, Chris is also developing nine other projects with Taylor Sheridan, although he remained tight-lipped on the details.
Since its release in 2018, Yellowstone has become one of the most successful franchises in television, scoring numerous accolades. At the Golden Globes in 2023, Kevin Costner received the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama, for his role as John Dutton III.
At the time the actor had not been able to personally accept his award as a result of the flooding in California that closed the freeways. Nonetheless, he released his acceptance speech a month later, saying: "My children heard my name called, and they stood up and they cheered." He continued: "When you first come to Hollywood you just wanted to get your first job and you see these things and even wonder if you're ever gonna get in a room like that. It feels really good to have this, there's no substitute for being there."
