In a 2016 interview with Glamour, Torrey revealed that most of her childhood was spent on the road travelling with her parents: "Most Billy Joel songs make me want to cry a little. They are so nostalgic for me," she said. "Remembering what it was like to be on tour with my family, the smell of the stadiums, watching the shows.

Torrey's father is famed drummer, Liberty DeVitto

"So much has changed since then, [but] all those songs hold great memories for me. My middle name is [actually] Joel (pronounced Jo-Elle), but the spelling was for Billy. I was born while my dad was on tour, so Billy's name inspired the spelling. However, the original origin is for both my grandmothers: Jo for Josephine and El for Eloise."

Torrey's mom is also best friends with Stevie Nicks and the Chicago Med star refers to her as her "fairy godmother"

Meanwhile, Torrey's mother, Mary, is best friends with Fleetwood Mac star Stevie Nicks, who also played a big role in her childhood. "Yes, they still are best friends," Torrey told Glamour. "I love and appreciate Stevie's music so much. She is such a beautiful poet, whom I admire deeply. She is like an aunt to me or my 'fairy godmother,' as she likes to put it. I did not grow up listening to her music on my own much because when it is someone so close to you like family, you do not really listen to their music the same way other people do, if that makes sense."
