The Repair Shop star Jay Blades has addressed his future on the popular BBC show. The restoration expert has hosted the heirloom-fixing programme since it first premiered back in 2017.

In a new interview, the 53-year-old was asked how long he would stay on the series, to which he responded: "I don't see myself going anywhere.

"If they'll have me, you might see me grow very old in that barn. I already shave my head but my eyebrows might go grey," he told The Guardian.

Jay, who tied the knot with fitness trainer Lisa Zbozen last year, was also quizzed on how often he cries while filming the show, which frequently brings viewers to tears with the heart-rending stories behind the treasured items.

"Not that often because what I've realised is that it’s not about me," he explained. "It's all about the person who's bringing the item in. My role is to ask why it's so important to them and listen to their story. I make sure I know nothing in advance.

"Thirty seconds before they come through the door, I'll ask the director their name and that's it. We just have a conversation."

While he may not cry during every episode, Jay shed a tear during a recent instalment of the programme, which saw the host welcome husband and wife Emese and Luke to the barn. The couple brought the clay imprint of their son David's footprints, which were taken just days before he passed away.

Emese and Luke told Jay and ceramics expert Kirsten Ramsay that David was born prematurely in February 2020 and was diagnosed with a rare heart condition just a few months later. The couple explained that David sadly died aged just five months, leaving Jay in tears.

After working her magic on the cracked imprint, Kirsten revealed the finished product, prompting an emotional reaction from the couple. Watch the heartbreaking moment below.
