Grantchester star Tom Brittney has shared a huge update on the upcoming eighth season of the beloved ITV detective drama.
Taking to Instagram, the actor revealed that the new season starts in the US and Canada on July 9th on Masterpiece PBS.
It's sad news for UK fans, however, as Tom said the ITV release date has not yet been announced but is "coming soon".
Sharing several snaps from the series, showing Tom in character as Revered Will Davenport, alongside Robson Green's DI Geordie Keating, he penned in the caption: "Grantchester season 8 starts July 9th in the USA and Canada on @masterpiecepbs. So very proud of being a part of this incredible show. 8 series - what an achievement (UK release date news coming soon. It’ll be worth the wait, I promise…)."
Taking to the comments section, some UK fans expressed their frustration at having to wait for a release date. One person wrote: "I'm waiting on that UK release. Feels like forever since season seven," while another added: "I find it funny that you know the US date before the UK date, isn't it released in your own country before any other?"

So, what can fans expect from the new series?
While season seven concluded with the joyous occasion of Will and Bonnie's wedding, it looks like Will and his detective buddy Geordie are set to face some tough times ahead as the synopsis teases "a terrible accident" that sends Will on a "dangerous downward spiral".
Meanwhile, Geordie and his wife Cathy are both confronted with "shocking announcements at work".
The synopsis continues: "Both Will and Geordie find themselves in unfamiliar, emotional waters and murder is always around the corner."
