Prior to Dame Deborah James' passing in June 2022, the father-of-three had formed a sweet bond with the You, Me And The Big C podcaster. In a poignant moment, William paid a visit to Deborah's home last year, after working behind the scenes to honour her with a Damehood. Following the royal's visit, Dame Deborah said that she was "blown away and crying at the honour".

A month later, during a visit to the Royal Marsden Hospital to meet the team that cared for Deborah, William spoke to consultant interventional radiologist William Dr Nicos Fotiadis about the honour. "It was an amazing moment for them," he said. "I loved meeting her, she was fantastic."
The 40-year-old also chatted with other people involved with Deborah's care, adding: "I was very honoured to be able to speak to her, it felt like a very personal family moment... it was a glorious day as well.
"But thank you, I know she'd want me to say this as well, thank you to you guys for caring for her - she always spoke very highly about her care."
According to the Prince, after honouring Deborah with her Damehood, she and her family opened a bottle of champagne to celebrate. "She was saying basically 'I can now drink, I can now drink this is brilliant'. She was triple parked and she kept making a joke about how many drinks she could get lined up in front of her," he recalled.
