Lorraine Kelly has opened up about Tom Parker Bowles’ recent appearance on The News Agents podcast, where he defended his mother, the Queen Consort Camilla.
The Lorraine host referenced Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, where he had written at length about his stepmother, calling his comments "brutal". She said: "It seems that Prince Harry’s claims aren’t Camilla were quite brutal, weren’t they? And [Tom’s interview] is a gentle way of putting Camilla’s side of it… If anyone had said that about our mothers we would not be happy, that’s for sure."
Royal expert Russell Myers replied: "Tom was speaking from the heart there and defending his mother… Harry in his memoir Spare was talking about Camilla sacrificing him on her PR alter and I looked back at some of the languages he was using and he said she began to play the long game, a campaign aimed at marriage and eventually the crown.
"So it was Tom backing up his mum and saying it was nothing [to do with that], she married for love and it was nothing untoward… I don't think Camilla and Charles will move away from [never complain, never explain] but it’s a good tactic from Tom, he came across very well, and we’d all defend our mum if they had insults thrown at them."

Speaking to hosts Emily Maitlis and Jon Sopel on the podcast, Tom said: "I think change happens but I don't care what anyone says - this wasn't any end game. She married the person she loved and this is what happened."
Writing about Camilla in his memoir, Harry claimed that she was playing the "long game" to becoming the Queen. It read: "Shortly after our private summits with her, she began to play the long game. A campaign aimed at marriage, and eventually the crown, with Pa's blessing we presumed."
