Niamh Algar is starring in ITV's latest gripping drama, Malpractice, which had viewers glued to their screens when it first premiered on Sunday night. 

The Irish actress plays Lucinda Edwards, a dedicated doctor whose life is derailed when her shift ends in the death of an opioid overdose victim. While fans will learn plenty about her character's personal life over the course of the series, how much do you know about Niamh's love life – and did you know that she's dating her on-screen husband?

Who is Niamh Algar? 

Niamh, 30, is an award-winning actress from Mullingar in Ireland. 

She has appeared in various popular TV shows over the years, including the ITV mini-series Deceit and Channel 4 crime drama, Suspect. 

The actress is also known for her role in the HBO sci-fi series, Raised by Wolves, and more recently appeared alongside Florence Pugh in the Netflix film, The Wonder.

Who is Niamh Algar dating?

Niamh is dating her on-screen husband Lorne MacFadyen, who plays Tom Edwards in the series. 

Lorne, who hails from Skye in Scotland, boasts an impressive list of acting credits, having appeared in several major dramas and movies over his career. 

Viewers may recognise him for playing Phil Wilkinson in the ITV detective series, Grantchester, as well as for his starring role in the TV mini-series about footballer Bobby Moore, Tina and Bobby

Niamh and Lorne are dating in real life

He also played Doward in the popular BBC drama, Vigil, and appeared in Netflix's 2018 action film, Outlaw King.

While it's not known exactly when Niamh and Lorne began dating, they went public with their relationship on Instagram back in June 2021.

In an adorable post to mark Niamh's birthday, Lorne shared a series of snaps of his girlfriend, penning a sweet message that read: "HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!! to my favourite! @niamhalgar love you loads - you rock! Get home soon."

The couple are fairly open about their relationship online and often post photos of each other on their respective Instagram pages.

Back in August last year, Niamh shared a photo of the couple which was taken after filming wrapped on the new ITV series. She wrote in the caption: "I couldn't be more proud of you."
