The 2025 Golden Globes Awards has kicked off awards season, and The Brutalist with three awards, and Emilia Perez, with four, have become the frontrunners.

It was a night of emotional moments, with Zoe Saldana winning the first award of the evening, breaking down in tears as she accepted the award.

"My heart is full of gratitude," Zoe said in an emotional speech. "This is the first time for me and I am just so blessed."

Zoe won for her work in Emilia Perez, and the film also went on to win Best Motion Picture - Non-English Language, Best Motion Picture (Comedy or Musical)  and Best Original Song, with Zoe returning to the stage to present it to the winners Camille and Clément Ducol.

Brady Corbet won Best Director for The Brutalist, the film also won Best Picture (Drama) while Adrien Brody won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Film (Drama) for his role as the Hungarian architect who moves to the US post World War II.

Adrien also found himself close to tears as he gave a long and emotional speech, as did Demi Moore as she accepted Best Performance by a Female Actor in a Film (Musical or Comedy) for The Substance.

emi Moore shuns her 'popcorn actress' title in emotional speech

“Thirty years ago, I had a producer tell me that I was a popcorn actress and at that time, I took that to mean that this wasn’t something that I was allowed to have, that I could do movies that were successful, that made a lot of money, but that I couldn’t be acknowledged," the 62-year-old said.

"I believed that, and that corroded me over time, to the point where I thought a few years ago that maybe this was it, maybe I was complete. I’ve done what I was supposed to do. And as I was at kind of a low point, I had this magical, bold, courageous, out-of-the-box, absolutely bonkers script come across my desk called The Substance, and the universe told me that you’re not done."

Sebastian Stan won Best Performance by a Male Actor in a Film (Musical or Comedy) for A Different Man..

When asked what his hardest role to date has been, he admitted it was his role as Donald Trump in The Apprentice, for which he was also nominated.

"That man in orange, Donald Trump, was the hardest," he said. "Not to diminish why I am here  talking to you [for A Different Man] but this was a big risk... and looking back at sleepless nights and responsibilities I feel I carried, it is The Apprentice, to honor the vision and the perspective on what we are all having to deal with.

The Netflix show went on to win Best television limited series, anthology series or motion picture made for television, and Richard Gadd accepted the award.

"We need stories that speak to the complicated and difficult nature of our times," he said.
