They both have strong opinions
Emma Watson once said: "I'm going to do what I want to do. I'm going to be who I really am. I'm going to figure out what that is." Really, JK Rowling could have written these words for Hermione and they would have fitted in perfectly. From creating SPEW (Society for the Promotion of Elfish Welfare) to helping to form Dumbledore's Army, Hermione has never shied away from doing whatever she wants, no matter what anyone thinks.
The pair are happiest when talking about books
"It sounds so geeky, but I really do like studying and reading, and if I'm not working on 'Harry Potter,' then my greatest relaxation is to sit with a book." Need we say more? Emma, like Hermione, has a huge love of books – so much so that she has her own book club on Goodreads, where she suggests great feminist novels and encourages members of the club to try them out themselves. Her section of the site has become a great hub for discussion, with keen readers following Emma's examples and chatting about the novels.
Nothing gets in their way
"I've probably earned the right to screw up a few times. I don't want the fear of failure to stop me from doing what I really care about." Much like Emma, Hermione is also courageous, confident and constantly puts herself out there to protect what she cares about. Emma would definitely be a Gryffindor herself, right?!
They have their own opinions
"Don't feel stupid if you don't like what everyone else pretends to love." Emma firmly believes that you shouldn't follow the crowd no matter what, which sounds a lot like Hermione. Time and time again she sticks to her guns and won't let her opinion be swayed. For example, she knew that Divination was stupid, she refused to swoon over Firenze the centaur, and she put a stop to Fred and George's tricks in the Gryffindor common room when they began experimenting on First Years.
They were a tiny bit bossy as children
"I was very keen. I was super-eager to please and be good. And I was always kind of bossy." Much like Hermione, Emma sounds like she was a bit of a goody-two-shoes while at school and was perhaps a little too assertive with her opinion. Of course, Hermione very much got off on the wrong foot with her peers when they all started Hogwarts by trying to tell them how to do spells properly and being, yes, just a bit bossy. Good thing they all fought to dungeon troll to give her a bit of perspective!
They refuse to dumb themselves down
Emma once said: "Girls should never be afraid to be smart," but her alter-ego, Hermione, takes it to a whole new level. Not only is she utterly unafraid to prove herself as the smartest in her year at school, she is actually terrified of being anything less than brilliant. Why else would her Boggart be McGonagall telling her she had failed all of her exams?!
They both have an appreciation of fashion
Emma, like Hermione, has her own distinctive sense of style. Of course, Hermione's usual vibe was a school uniform accessorised by two dozen books or so, but on the night of the Yule Ball she expresses herself in a pretty gown complete with newly sleek and shiny hair. As Emma previously said: "I'm a multidimensional person and that's the freedom of fashion: that you're able to reinvent yourself through how you dress and how you cut your hair or whatever." We think she might be speaking about herself and her alter-ego on this occasion!
They are courageous
"There's nothing wrong with being afraid. It's not the absence of fear, it's overcoming it. Sometimes you've got to blast through and have faith." Come on now! This could almost have been Hermione's motto throughout the seven books! Although she was perhaps the most cautious of the trio, and was definitely scared at times, she did whatever it took to save her friends!
