Blondes may have more fun, but lately grey hair has been getting all the attention. Creating a shocking contrast to youthful beauty, taking the plunge into grey in your 20s is now as fashionable as highlights. Kelly Osbourne recently experimented with granny chic to show off her unblemished skin and taut features, but added a modern touch with a purple wash through her locks.

Whilst 25-year-old singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding has made a subtle transition from natural blonde with icy highlights, fellow vocalist and friend Marina Lambrini Diamandis shows off her confidence with powered charcoal locks reminiscent of Marie Antoinette's decorative wigs.

But it's not just the young set experimenting with grey.We only need to look at Helen Mirren or Jamie Lee Curtis to see that wearing age with pride can look stunning too.And they're not the only ones to surrender the chemical battle against their silver locks.

Mother of four, Nicole Kidman, has been spotted embracing the subtle streaks creeping in at the roots but, at 45, she is yet to go racing to the salons in distress.

Joining the likes of Nicole by going au naturel is the perfect solution to high maintenance haircare that is tiring, time consuming, and costly. And you don't need a Hollywood hairdresser to achieve the look either. Real grey hair has no pigment at all, so to speed up the change into cool tones, invest in the lightest blonde highlights for your skin tone. Not only will this make you look more youthful, it will add warmth to your face without the need of make-up. This low-maintenance routine lasts much longer than normal dye, and can be maintained with a purse-friendly home touch-up twice a year.Likewise, make sure your haircut flatters your face. Short, modern cuts with soft waves or fringes look best with grey hair. In terms of make-up, mix up your palette with radiant colours to bring life into your new look. Pink or coral red lipstick are perfect for young plump pouts and deep purple eye shadows will work to enhance the blue tints in grey hair.
