The skies may be grey but it needn't mean that your makeup tones should follow the weather's colour palette. There's nothing more exciting than to brighten up a cold, gloomy day than with an explosion of unexpected colour. Sometimes a pop of pink lipstick looks at its best in a contrasting situation. So have some fun with your makeup the next time you're out on the town, turn up the colour spectrum to bring some festive cheer back into your cosmetic kit.
Add touch of edgy sophistication to a snug winter outfit and wear a loud lipstick down in the day with a matt finish like Kelly Osbourne. For the evening, finish off neon lips in fushia pink, ruby red or seasonal Clementine orange with a touch of gloss to add body to your party pout. But don't just stop at the lips, Christmas is a great time to invest in makeup palettes with a wide range of eyeshadow colours so you'll never be stuck on finding a shade to brighten up your day when the day. Before you pick a shadow it's important to neutralise any pigmentation around the eye area with a good base. The same should apply when wearing bright lipsticks so find a primer with anti-redness properties that will cancel out blotchy skin that will clash with bold makeup. The rule of thumb should generally be that the warmer your skin tone, the more vibrant your colour palette can be. But never be intimidated by a splash of colour – there's exciting shades to suit every girl. Even the palest of party goiers can pull of the colourful look this winter. Simpy take inspiration from singing sensation, Taylor Swift and press a sparkling powder-blue shadow onto the lid area for a sugar-plum fairy feel. If you have olive skin then play around with festive shades from vibrant green to holly-berry reds to match your complexion. A red eyeshadow may seem rather daring but it's been hot on the catwalks all season, the trick is simply to line the inside of your lashline with a nude pencil to keep your eyes looking fresh. For those blessed with a darker complexion, dare to try out fantastically bright purple and yellow hues. These two colours in particular complements each other perfectly and will bring out a healthy warmth in your face on those frosty nights.
However you choose to wear your bold, bright and beautiful makeup this season just make sure you wear it loud!
