Beauty trends never exist solely in the home countries of their presenting fashion weeks. A bold Parisian lip stain looks gorgeous against the pared-back skin sported by London's top fashionistas and, likewise, a transatlantic union of New York and Milan's style is equally covetable. With this in mind, we've sneaked back behind the scenes of fashion shows around the world to bring you the key notes from Carolina Herrera's heavenly hairstyles and Dolce & Gabbana's statement makeup for the perfect look to sum up Autumn/Winter 2013.
Orlando Pita from Orlo Salon is our man behind the hair at New York and is booked nearly always to finish of Carolina Herrara's visions each season. Their most recent collaboration featured a structural twisted up-do with a vintage 1940's style vibe. Here's Orlando's step-by-step guide: • I started by spraying the new Heat shield Moroccanoil (available exclusively U.S.) to prep the hair for drying whilst keeping the finish soft and natural. For models with fine hair, I also worked in some Volumising Mousse, before smoothing the hair against a vented brush whilst blowing dry• Then I applied the Hydrating Styling Cream to give the hair shine for Carolina's elegant and perfect look. Apply a little more in the roots than in the top to get the tension you want in your hair• I started dividing the hair in half to create two sections, and a third, starting behind the ear, rose to crown and back down to the other ear • After curling each section slightly around a large barrel roller I then took the hair that fell outside the coiled strands, twined and twisted it up behind around the rest of the rolled look. Finally, slightly lift the hair from the back section above the neck, rolling it up leaving a little looser around the front sections before fixing in place • To finish I used a bit of styling cream applying it with my fingers on some hair was left loose to get the whole shall be smooth and perfect and lightly spray hair with Glimmer Shine Spray to get an extra light and brightness

On enterting Dolce & Gabbana's show in Milan it was clear backstage there there was nothing subtle about their makeup collection. The clothes were inspired by the mosaics of Monreale Cathedral needed a strong face to balance out the brand's bold vision for Autumn/Winter and make-up artist Pat McGrath was just the expert to pull off the look. Using the clothing company's own range of cosmetics to complement the designs, Pat began with a mixture of the brand's signature bases - Perfect Luminous and Matte Perfect Liquid foundations. Take a small amount of the blended mixture and buff into the forehead, nose, cheeks and chin whilst always blending from the centre point outwards to distribute the product seamlessly across the skin. The look's provocative vibe comes from the nude base set against a darker contrast of strong eye and lip colours, where a matte ruby red is applied in layers for intense pigmentation on the models' pouts. For the eyes, begin with D&G's eyeshadow quad and select the tone Desert to sweep across the whole eye area before taking a darker shade to pick out the definition at the socket's crease. Finally apply a line of liquid eyeliner on the lash line to add more definition and use two coats of mascara to give length to lashes for Milan's most luxurious and flirty look.
