MIC star Louise Thompson talks beauty, diet and being friends with Spencer

May 16, 2014

She never fails to impress with her beauty looks on Made In Chelsea, but Louise Thompson has told HELLO! Online that she doesn't always like her onscreen appearance. "I'm quite critical of how I look… I use powder now as in some episodes I've looked really shiny on camera," she said. "To the point where my dad even calls me 'shiny'!" The pint-sized star, who is the new face of skincare cream Care Aqueous Emollient also revealed her top beauty tips, how she stays in shape and why she's still friends with ex boyfriend and fellow cast member Spencer Matthews

Makeup that looks good in real life often don't translate to on camera…

In an episode a couple of weeks back, I wore a gorgeous purple MAC eyeshadow that looked good in the flesh, but onscreen it looked like I'd been punched!]

I wear more make-up for filming…

Day-to-day, I'm quite laidback with my make-up, but there's a filter on the camera that makes make-up look bland onscreen, so I tend to apply a lot more. I always do it myself though – I love applying make-up! I'm so much better at it now than when the show first started… There are some new castmembers who are young and don't really know how to apply make-up for onscreen yet.

Eyebrows are so important…

They really frame the face. Last series, I hated my eyebrows so I am trying to grow them out. In terms of eyebrows tips, my mum always taught me not to pluck from the top and always to pluck in the right direction.

I don't use proper foundation…

I really don't like the caked on look so I use MAC Face & Body instead – it's water-based and really light. I like high street conceals, such as L'Oreal. Eyeliner is my must-have beauty item – I normally use a Rimmel one or if I'm feeling extravagant, YSL! I look quite brown but I'm actually really pale – I'm just really good at fake-tanning! I use a mitt to apply it three times a week. Another must-have beauty product for me is Care Aqeous Emollient Cream – it's affordable and so good to the skin.

I'm happy with my weight…

I've always kept in decent shape and I've never put on or lost loads of weight, but the camera does add pounds. Because I'm so short, I have to be careful because I don't want to look stocky. My problem area is my arms. I really hate them! I just think they're short and stubby… Spencer used to call them the wubby arms – he has an obsession with them!

I'm really into boxing…

I get bored on long runs or on the treadmill but I love boxing. It's good for different muscle groups and cardio as well. I pack quite a punch! I like having a trainer because they can mix things up and tailor things to my needs – you discover muscles you never knew you had.

I'm enjoying Made In Chelsea this series…

I've had two very stressful seasons prior to this where there were a lot of tears and really raw emotions so it's nice to be less involved in that sense.

I feel really sorry for Binky…

She's going through the same thing and I went through with Spencer and really empathise with that. The way that Alex treated Binky continually was a really big surprise to me because I saw them on nights out together and all of his attention was on her.

People think cheating is normal now because of reality television…

I was filming something yesterday with Spencer and we were joking about the cheating but I said, 'People are probably using the excuse that if Spencer and Jamie did it, it's fine', and it's not. I really hope people don't aspire to be like that.

I have made up with Spencer…

He's someone that will be in my life for as long as I continue to be on the show and it definitely plays in my favour to get along with him. Having him onside is better than not having him onside… Otherwise he makes my life difficult.

I'm so looking forward to New York…

I've ordered new suitcases and bought lots of new clothes! I couldn't be more excited. I've been out to New York a few times before and the atmosphere is insane.
