The Duchess of Cambridge, née Kate Middleton, has the best female celebrity smile, according to an new study. The stunning royal, who is one of the most-photographed women in the world, topped the poll by Wrigley's Extra White Bubblement to celebrate National Smile Month.
Coming in second place was beautiful TV presenter Holly Willoughby and third place went to X Factor judge Cheryl Cole. David Beckham and George Clooney, meanwhile, topped the male list in joint first place. The poll discovered just how important smiles really are – 51 per cent of the women surveyed said that they find a smile the most attractive trait in a man when they meet for the first time. Men feel the same way – 60 per cent that a smile is most important.
Many, however, are not completely comfortable with their smile. "Unfortunately, there are still many people who are unhappy with their smiles, often caused by poor oral hygiene over the years," Dr Nigel Carter OBE, Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundations. "Poor oral health can be both physically painful and psychologically damaging. It can affect self-confidence, image and even how people are perceived by other people.
"National Smile Month is an important reminder to everyone in the UK about their oral health and is the ideal time to review your day-to-day routine and make sure you're not putting your smile at risk. It is really important to get the basics right at home.
We recommend brushing your teeth for two minutes twice a day with fluoride toothpaste, cutting down on how often you have sugary foods and drinks, and visiting your dentist regularly, as often as they recommend. "Adopting this good oral health routine can make a huge difference to a confident smile, as well as bringing many other positive aspects to everyday life."
