Queen Letizia takes inspiration from Olivia Palermo with chic updo

November 7, 2014

All eyes were on Queen Letizia of Spain earlier this week as she sported a chic braided updo for an awards ceremony. And the stylish royal seems to have taken inspiration from fashionista Olivia Palermo, who opted for an almost identical style last year. Queen Letizia chose the elegant updo which features a slightly loose braid tied into a low-key yet glamorous bun, as she joined husband King Felipe VI for the Francisco Cerecedo journalism awards ceremony at the Ritz in Madrid.

The 42-year-old complemented her hairstyle with some dazzling statement earrings, to offset her chic black top with sequinned embellishment. Olivia had also opted for a sequinned ensemble, however the 28-year-old chose not to wear any jewellery apart from a bangle, keeping the focus on her hairdo. Known for her effortlessly chic yet dressed up style, the pretty socialite is often spotted rocking a braided updo at formal events.

It was not just Olivia's hairstyle which Queen Letizia channelled for the glitzy event, with both women sporting fresh-faced, dewy make-up. While by day Queen Letizia usually opts for plum or earth shades, she chose a beauty look with a hint of pink for the formal affair. This chic evening look consists of a nude make-up base, with cheekbones being defined with a hint of pale pink or coral blusher.

Both Olivia and Queen Letizia chose an unusual eyeliner style, which heavily focuses on well-defined, curly eyelashes. To add definition, both style icons opted for a thin line of pink eyeliner at the forefront of their eyelids, before finishing off the look with some black eyeliner, thickening the line as it draws away from the eye. This creates natural-looking definition, while the black eyeliner provides some evening glamour.
