HFM's spotlight on suncreams

Your skincare regime isn’t on point unless you’re using a suncream all year round, not just during the summer months. Dr Zein Obagi of ZO Skin Health tells us, ‘You need to guard yourselves against damaging rays, free radical molecules and the effects of pollution on the skin, but it’s less about the 'SPF', he says. Instead he believes we should look for broad-spectrum protection in our creams and lotions instead. The latest slew of sun protection creams are not only broad-spectrum, but with added beauty benefits too.

We’ve rounded up the latest high tech hybrids gracing the HFM beauty desk...

ZO Skin Health Oclipse Smart Tone Broad-Spectrum Sunscreen SPF50 £44

Our beauty writer Gabriella is an avid user of Dr Zein Obagi’s products and his new facial sunscreen is top of her list. It’s great for sensitive skin - containing anti-redness ingredients to soothe and calm any inflammation whilst the tiny tinted micro-beads burst when you rub in, for a sheer glow without the ghost-like effect of normal high factor creams. Well worth investing in.

Vita Liberata Passionflower and Argan Dry Oil In SPF 50 & 25 £28.50

An all-round multitasker, this protects against UVA and UVB rays whilst being waterproof too. It’s also an instant beautifier for exposed limbs in the evening doubles up as a hydrator for sun-sapped hair when smoothed over the ends, and smells good enough to wear as a fragrance.

Coola Mineral Sunscreen Cucumber Matte Finish SPF30 £26.00

Loved by our pregnant Beauty Director Charlotte, this Californian brand uses all-natural ingredients with the same high protection as chemical based creams. Formulated without any synthetic fragrance this is also great if you’re prone to prickly heat or Rosacea; it contains soothing cucumber extract, which doubles up as a hydration hit too.

Neal’s Yard Remedies Lemongrass Moisturising Sun Lotion SPF30 £20

Another organic alternative – Dryer skins in need of extra hydration this is for you. Containing Lemongrass which has antibacterial properties and also acts as an insect repellant, we popped this on when sipping evening Mojitos in the beach bar.
