It's not often you see royals sporting colourful nail art, but Princess Eugenie bucked the trend when she sported a very festive set of manicured nails earlier this week. The Queen's granddaughter was attending the annual Christmas luncheon at Buckingham Palace when she was photographed with her jazzy nails.

Dressed in all black, Eugenie, 25, added a bit of pizzazz to her look with a deep red manicure.

She topped off her polish with different festive designs on each nail – ranging from a glittering gold snowflake to a Rudolph reindeer, complete with his cute red nose.

Eugenie was joining her grandmother at the lavish palace luncheon, which usually takes place just a few days before the Queen and Prince Philip head to Sandringham in Norfolk for the Christmas holidays.

It is the main occasion when members of the royal family can get together to celebrate Christmas in London.

Prince Charles and his wife the Duchess of Cornwall arrived together, while Prince Harry, the Duchess of Cambridge and Prince George were pictured travelling in the same car. Kate's husband Prince William is believed to have been working.

This is not the first time Eugenie has showed off her penchant for nail art. Back in 2012 at the Diamond Jubilee, the Princess came up with a fresh, funky way to celebrate her grandmother's 60 years on the throne.

Eugenie proudly sported Union Jack-themed nails as she stepped out for the Epsom Derby, the official start to the festivities. Her patriotic talons were the perfect finishing touch to an outfit featuring a checked monochrome shift dress with ruched detailing, nude heels and a simple black fascinator.

She kept her colourful design on for the remainder of the national celebration.
