Mums give the best make-up and skincare advice

May 15, 2017

Most of us learn a lot from our parents, including manners, values and work ethic. Ladies also get the added benefit of learning how to look after their skin and make-up master classes from their mothers, and it's now been revealed just how much we appreciate those pearls of wisdom. And with it being Mother's Day in the U.S., Australia and New Zealand, along with other countries, on Sunday - what better way to celebrate what our mothers taught us?

When it comes to beauty tips, mum's the word

In a survey commissioned by pro-age beauty brand Look Fabulous Forever, which creates make-up for mature skin, it was found that despite the torrent of beauty advice we get from experts and celebrities, it's actually our mums we're most likely to listen to in the beauty stakes. In fact, 64 per cent of daughters say they trust their mother over anyone else when it comes to beauty tips.

A total of 500 18-49-year-old women were questioned for the survey, with the participants sharing the best things they've learnt from their mum. Topping the list of the 10 best pieces of beauty advice is taking your make-up off before bed, which received an impressive 56 per cent of the vote. At number two was remembering to moisturise your neck as well as your face, scoring 28 per cent, followed closely by always smile as you'll automatically look more beautiful, with 26 per cent.

In at four was cleanse, tone and moisturise everyday (18%), then wear sunscreen daily (17%), and at six, make sure foundation doesn't stop at the chin line (14%). Next was regularly wash make-up brushes (12%) and to never wear bright eyes and lips at the same time (11%).

Rounding out the top 10 was use a specific eye cream, and never use make-up or creams which are too old, with both receiving 10 per cent of the vote. “It's fascinating to see what beauty advice daughters hold dear from their mothers. All the advice highlighted shows that British women trust their mums the most when it comes to beauty and skincare and that long-standing and traditional advice is valued,” Tricia Cusen, founder and CEO of Look Fabulous Forever, told Cover Media.
