As the mercury drops, beauty problems like dry skin, chapped lips and brittle hair start to cause a problem. But there are many ways to help autumn-proof your hair and skin. Let us get you excited for the colder months...

1. Use a silk pillowcase

This is a simple tip that really helps to avoid hair breakage and damage while you toss and turn during the night. There have also been claims that a silk pillowcase helps to minimise breakageage and prevent wrinkles, too, so you’ll be treating your hair and your skin.

2. Get your beauty sleep

Is your skin looking or feeling dry and tired? Make sure it gets a good dose of hydration by applying a serum at night and leaving it to do its thing. We're loving Estee Lauder's NEW Advanced Night Repair which contains innovative new ChronoluxTM Power Signal Technology that supports skin’s natural repair more effectively than ever. And for the first time, helps skin increase its natural renewal of fresh new cells and production of collagen for firmer skin. This absorbs fast as it works to reduce the look of multiple signs of ageing and helps protect skin from the environmental assaults of modern life.  With daily use, lines appear reduced, skin feels firmer, pores appear minimised and skin looks more even-toned, younger, with a new bounce and vitality.

3. Apply a nourishing hair mask

If your hair had too much sun exposure, or you have damaged or frizzy hair, apply an overnight treatment mask - it can be a game-changer. The Kerastase Chronologiste Masque is hydrating for both your hair and scalp thanks to added Hyaluronic Acid, which really works to lock in essential moisture, preventing excessive dryness while controlling frizz for a smoother, silkier look and feel. Think of it as an anti-ageing mask for your hair. What's more, the fragrance is made up of Musk, Light Woods and Tea Rose, so you’ll be left with an uplifting scent that lingers even after washing.

4. Apply a nourishing oil to your lips

Exfoliate your lips to get rid of any dead skin, and then apply a generous coat of your favourite lip balm. We love the classic Elizabeth Arden 8-Hour Cream Nourishing Lip Balm, but you could also use almond oil before going to bed.

5. Put your eye cream in the fridge

Store your eye cream in the fridge overnight and apply it cool in the morning– the cooling effect works to de-puff and soothe early morning eye bags… It also helps to prolong the life of your (probably very expensive!) product, too. If you're looking for something new to try - Nuxe's new organic eye cream with Buckwheat extract protects the fragile eye contour area from oxidative stress, moisturises and corrects signs of fatigue. Fine lines are smoothed, and the puffiness and dark circles are visibly reduced. Warm the product between your fingertips and then apply to the eye contour area, starting with the lower eyelid and working from the centre outwards. Finish by tapping gently.

6. Apply tea tree oil

Do you suffer from breakouts in the colder months? It might be worth pre-empting blemishes by applying generous amounts of tea tree oil to problematic areas of your face and body before you go to sleep… It helps to dry out oily areas in a gentle way.

7. Drink water before bed

Drinking a large glass of water before bed helps to keep your skin hydrated throughout the night. De-hydrated skin is often the cause for full complexions, so give yourself a gorgeous glow by keeping topped up – it’s easy and doesn’t cost you a thing.
