Stylists save the day at Met Ball with celebs’ secret weapon

May 5, 2010

They may have looked polished and perfect on the red carpet, but the celebrities at the Met Ball almost went through hairdo hell when the weather outside conspired to turn their beautiful barnets into damp, flat frizzballs. But, according to our sources Stateside, the super stylists behind the scenes saved the day with their secret salvation in a bottle, Moroccanoil products that gave the celebs’ styles a line of defence against the moisture in the air.

As John D., who styled Sienna Miller’s hair, explained: "The weather was very humid in New York and the red carpet happened between rainstorms. So I first prepped Sienna’s slightly damp hair with Moroccanoil Hydrating Styling Cream, applying a small amount on the palm of my hand then finger-combing it throughout the hair. I used it to hydrate and protect the hair as well as helping to counteract the humidity in the air and prevent frizz." Here’s how he – and a selection of other stylists – dressed their celebrity clients’ hair for the event...

Star: Claire DanesStylist: Peter ButlerClaire Danes looked exceptional in a strapless slate-grey gown by Christopher Bailey for Burberry, with hair that highlighted her elegant pale blonde colour with natural-looking polished and textured waves.According to stylist Peter Butler, "The look was elegant with a luxurious rock-and-roll edge. I created a higher part than Claire usually wears to open up her face with smooth, flowing waves that looked tousled yet sophisticated. It's almost like a modern version of combed out beach waves. "Peter first applied a dry shampoo at the roots for volume, then used a medium-barrel curling iron, picking up small sections starting at the nape of the neck, twisting hair around while leaving ends straight. "After combing curls out with a wide-tooth comb, I adjusted the texture with my hands and brought them forward to soften the face," he says, before finishing with hairspray.

Star: Sienna MillerStylist: John D.Sienna Miller made a dramatic entrance wearing a stunning navy blue Emilio Pucci gown, with hair strongly inspired by the classic, sensual beauty of Brigitte Bardot. "I did a super-clean, simple blowout using a flat bristle brush. I wanted to smooth out any natural wave yet still leave a bit of volume at the root. After the hair was dry, I decided on a messy centre part, then pulled back the front part of hair, and fastened half into an undone half-upstyle. I left a bit of volume at the crown so it would look slightly messy, yet classically Bardot."

Star: Rachel WeiszStylist: Mark Townsend"The theme of this year's Met Ball was ‘American Woman’ and after seeing Rachel's Oscar de la Renta dress I knew that we should keep her hair down and sexy," says Mark, who used Moroccanoil Treatment, which reduces drying time, before blowdrying with a medium, round brush. "When the hair was dry, I used a curling iron and rolled the hair from the ends to the roots in the iron, which creates more volume at the bottom of the hair instead of at the roots, before brushing out with a flat brush," Mark adds.A little hairspray tamed flyaways, with Moroccanoil Glimmer Shine Spray on the ends to fight the New York City humidity and frizz while enhancing highlights and shine. Rachel apparently felt her hair was soft and sexy with a bit of a classic Seventies vibe, says Mark. Visit www.moroccanoil.com or call 0800 310 1133 for your nearest Moroccanoil salon stockist.
