Hollywood heartthrobs Bradley Cooper and Ryan Gosling have been named the men with the sexiest hairstyles in the world, with British icons David Beckham and Prince Harry pipped to the top spots. The research, carried out by professional hair brand Fudge, revealed that it was the length of Bradley's hair that gave him the edge on his Place Beyond The Pines co-star.

Forty five per cent of British women agree that Bradley's 4.5inch locks are the perfect length to run their fingers through. Ryan and style chameleon David took second and third place with only three per cent between them, while bedheaded One Direction singer Harry Styles took the final place in the top five behind Prince Harry's military crop. Fudge, who is the official hair partner to the London Collections: Men, found that shorter styles are proving more popular than the longer styles of Russell Brand and even Brad Pitt.

Instead, Leonardo DiCaprio's dapper Great Gatsby 'do and action man Chris Pine’s regulation Star Trek crop both proved far more popular. "Films like The Great Gatsby have definitely contributed somewhat to a resurgent of the longer, more slicked back hairstyle for men," said Fudge creative director John Vial. "Actors like Bradley Cooper showcase the style brilliantly and prove that long hair can be stylish and masculine. Men are definitely becoming more creative when it comes to their hair and with such a stamp of approval from the opposite sex I predict this trend will continue for some time yet."

The five men with the sexiest hairstyles in the world: 1. Bradley Cooper’s 4.5 inches (40 per cent) 2. Ryan Gosling’s 3.0 inches (20 per cent) 3. David Beckham’s 3.5 inches (17 per cent)4. Prince Harry’s 2.5 inches (7 per cent) 5. Harry Styles’ 5.0 inches (5 per cent)
