Cheryl Fernandez-Versini debuts 1970s-inspired crop

March 2, 2015

Cheryl Fernandez-Versini surprised her fans on Monday by debuting a new hairstyle. The pop star, known for her long brunette locks, posted a new Instagram snap which showed off a 70s-style chop.

"I ❤️ the 70's #newdo colour is @lorealparisuk Casting Creme Gloss Berry Red 565. @percyhair thanks for the chop ?", Cheryl captioned the shot.

Three hours earlier, the 31-year-old had teased fans by posting a picture of hair salon equipment, including scissors, and adding: "Long over due..."

Her millions of fans left adoring comments about her new look, with many adding that it looked "mature" and that they "loved it".

The Crazy Stupid Love singer's new look is on trend for 2015 as the 1970s fashion and hair makes a comeback.

The Fall/Winter runway shows this year were full of '70s silhouettes, including bell bottom trousers and A-line skirts - and hair also played a role, with soft waves and sleek partings.

The chop comes three months after Cheryl topped a poll for the most requested celebrity hairstyle of 2014 with 24 per cent, closely followed by style icon the Duchess of Cambridge, who was close behind with 21 per cent.

"For me, Cheryl never puts a foot wrong when it comes to her hair," admitted one of the poll's respondents. "It always looks flawless when she appears on X Factor."

Cheryl's hair before the cut was much admired by her fans

It's been an exciting 12 months for Cheryl, who surprised her fans in July 2014 when she announced late on a Sunday evening that she had married her partner of three months, Jean-Bernard Fernandez-Versini.

"I usually do not discuss my personal life but to stop the speculation I want to share my happy news... Jean-Bernard and I married on 7/7/14..," read the text accompanying the picture."

"❤️ We are very happy and excited to move forward with our lives together." she added.
