Try a two-tone effect
The biggest problem with highlighted fair hair is that after a couple of re-touches, it ends up being too light. You can avoid this by opting for a two-tone effect. Ask your salon's colour adviser how darker streaks can be used to balance out the lighter locks and keep your hair looking much the same shade even when you've had the colour re-done a number of times.
Frame your face
Although most modern colour products contain moisturising ingredients to counteract their harsh effects, all hair-lightening products can be damaging. So why not limit their use to strands around your face? This will help brighten and illuminate your features without burdening your barnet with too much colour.
Be careful at the pool...
The worst enemy for blonde hair is chlorine: if you aren't careful you'll find those lovely highlights have turned a suspicious shade of green. Always remember to wear a swimming cap and wash your hair with a gentle moisturising shampoo and fresh water when you come out of the pool.
...and with the sun
It's easy to forget the sun at this time of year, but if you're lucky enough to be planning a winter escape to sunnier climes, remember to pack some moisturising conditioner as sunshine is particularly damaging to treated hair.
