Jennifer Lopez's stylist reveals why the star cut her hair

Jennifer Lopez is never afraid to experiment with her look, and the superstar unveiled her most dramatic look to date last week, when she revealed she had chopped her tumbling locks into a short bob. Hair stylist Juan Carlos Maciques, the man behind the star's new hairdo, has now opened up about what prompted the pop diva to get her hair cut.

Juan admitted that the Jenny from the Block singer chose to go for the chop as part of her commitment to her upcoming role in new police drama Shades of Blue.

"J.Lo is very passionate about her new role and has a very specific idea of who the character is and what she should look like," he told the Hollywood Reporter. "It's a character she's created to suit a specific need, and the cut reflects that."

"Now it's a matter of adapting it to her every day and making it glamorous," he added.

Jennifer first unveiled her wavy bob in a sultry selfie posted on Instagram, looking as glamorous as ever with smokey blue eye make-up, nude lips and a bold cobalt blue turtleneck dress. "Short hair don't care…" she captioned the snap.

It's been a busy few months for the star who has been filming her new television show as well as preparing for her upcoming Las Vegas residency which was announced in May.

"I've been preparing for this moment my entire life," the mother-of-two wrote in a statement to her fans. "The show is going to be a multifaceted high energy Jenny from the Block party, mixing all aspects of what my fans and I love – dance, hip hop, Latin and pop. It's going to be the show I've always dreamt of creating."

The American Idol judge will bring her famous "glamorous Latin flair" to the set, and can promise to deliver "explosive dance numbers" and "extravagant costumes".
