Rachel McAdams has gone for a fresh new look, just a few days before she hits the Oscars red carpet. The 37-year-old, who is nominated in the Best Supporting Actress category for her role in Spotlight, debuted a striking new platinum blonde hairstyle as she attended a glitzy dinner on Thursday night.

Although Rachel has been rocking blonde hues in recent years, this marks one of her boldest shades yet, with the Notebook actress having dyed her tresses a few shades lighter than her trademark look.

The Canadian beauty debuted the look at a dinner honouring her Spotlight director Tom McCarthy, where she chose to wear her blonde bob down in a sleek and straight style, with a side parting – a contrast to her usually tousled waves.

No doubt this year's Academy Awards ceremony is particularly exciting for the star, as it marks her first ever nomination for one of the coveted trophies – and she's in great company, with fellow nominees for Best Supporting Actress including Kate Winslet, Alicia Vikander, Rooney Mara and Jennifer Jason Leigh.

Rachel has previously admitted she was "speechless" when she first heard the news, before admitting that her initial reaction was to burst into fits of laughter as she let it sink in.

"I'm still speechless. I couldn't stop laughing!" she told Us Weekly. "I was so not expecting this."

She explained that on the day of the nominations, she worried something "bad happened" when she began being flooded with texts and phone calls.

"At quarter to six, I got a text from my publicist and then I saw all these texts and I thought, 'Something bad has happened'. Then [I read] 'your personal nomination' and I was like, 'What?!' And then I started laughing. I was laying in a hotel room in L.A laughing my head off."
