Olivia Wilde not only topped best-dressed lists at the Oscars on Sunday, but she had fans around the globe coveting her effortlessly glamorous beauty look. The 31-year-old wowed with her glossy brunette tresses worn in a chic updo, mastering one of the season's biggest trends – braids.
The star's showstopping hairstyle was created exclusively by Revlon, for whom she is currently a brand ambassador – and we've got her hairdresser's step-by-step guide to recreating the look at home…
Olivia Wilde's Oscars updo was created exclusively with Revlon Professional products
Step one: Cleanse your hair and give its colour a beautiful depth – Olivia used Revlon Professional 45 Days Brunette (£12.35), before giving her locks a deep condition with a hydrating treatment.
Step two: This look works best when full of volume so prep your locks with an amplifying mousse, then split your hair in two sections, into a side parting.
Step three: Take the first section and divide it into three parts. Begin to braid, adding a small section from the hairline each time. Gather this into the main section of your hair and keep going until you get to the top of the ear.

Step four: Finish by simply braiding the rest of the section as normal, without adding hair from the hairline. Work until the end of your tresses and then secure with an elastic band.
Step five: Repeat on the other side.
Step six: Bring the two plaited sections together and twist into a bun at the nape of the neck. Pin into place by weaving French pins into the bun.
Step seven: Tease the plaits for more volume and a wider, flatter braid shape. Use a strong hairspray with flexible hold to keep the look in place all night.
