The SAG Awards 2017 saw some of Hollywood's biggest stars take to the red carpet with gorgeous gowns and flawless hairstyles to boot. Celebrity hairstylist Carl Bembridge has rounded up some of his favourite celebrity hairstyles, along with some tips on how to recreate the looks at home.
Nicole Kidman - Chic Up-do
"Nicole always looks beautiful and this time was no different. I loved the stylish chignon and how it brought out her cheekbones. Even though it’s clearly a very complex hairstyle, the loose strand at the side, knotted texture of the bun and skipping the high-shine hairspray, added the effortless feel to this look, making it look even more chic."
Chrissy Teigen - Ombre Waves
"This is the most classic hairstyle for a red-carpet event, nothing beats those timeless Hollywood waves. I loved absolutely everything about Chrissy’s SAG Awards' look; the red lip, the structured yet very feminine (in the least obvious manner) dress, and of course her long ombre waves. The side-swept hairstyle worked perfectly with her long statement earrings, and high-gloss made a simple look very red-carpet appropriate. Gorgeous!"
Kirsten Dunst - Wavy Lob
"Lob is definitely the hairstyle of the moment and Kirsten suits it perfectly; the middle parting and the anti-clockwise waves frame her face beautifully. It’s also quite easy to recreate at home. Simply use your favourite texturizing spray, mine is by OUAI Haircare, and create the waves using your straighteners instead of the curling iron for that softer look. If your hair is naturally curly, I would also recommend straightening it prior to curling, your ends will look sharp and the hair perfectly styled."
Michelle Williams – Platinum Pixie
"Pixie cuts are modern, easy and so chic – the antithesis to all of those bouncy blow-outs we see rocking up on the red carpet every week. Michelle looks sublime and the cut is accentuated by being platinum, this brave look shows short-haired girls are just the coolest."
Emily Blunt – Side Parting
"If you want to add a sharp, contemporary edge to a really feminine dress, then a really sleek style is a great way to do it – it creates drama and gives the whole look a really sexy, androgynous vibe. For this look, the wonderful Emily's side parting shows off her face shape and those gorgeous sharp cheekbones. If you want to try this look out at home on your natural hair, brush through hair until it's super smooth, and run straighteners through the lengths until hair is really straight and glossy. Use a serum like 72 Hair Repairing Oil to create lots of shine, and then sharply part the hair at the side. I would use the straighteners to flick out the ends and create some movement and bounce, so the hair is still really sleek but has a vibrancy about it. Finish with a shine-boosting hairspray for maximum gloss."
Kate Hudson - Swept-back rock chic
"I loved this look on Kate; the mix of swept-back undone hair, with the piercing on her ears, the black dress and berry lip, are the perfect example of how to do the red-carpet rock chic. The hair also brought all the attention to Kate's beautiful face. The volume on the hairline with minimum shine are the key features of this hairstyle, so I would recommend using a texturizing powder, like the Bumble and Bumble Prêt-à-Powder, rather than a spray, which might leave some shine behind."
