Demi Lovato has switched up her signature hair style and is rocking much shorter tresses of late. The singer-songwriter ditched her long hair extensions for an appearance at the 2017 Kids' Choice Awards, where she debuted her new long bob or 'lob' on the red carpet. If you're thinking of updating your look like Demi, Neville Hair and Beauty senior stylist Jack Merrick Thirlway advises asking your hairstylist for a textured long bob during your next appointment.
Demi's ultra-relaxed, tousled hair look is perfect for the spring
“A consultation is key for the stylist to assess the client's neck and bone structure as this will dictate the base length,” he told Cover Media. “When the stylist has established the length most suited to the client's facial features, they will then proceed to cut the base length followed by some razored layers to give it an undone finish.”
Adding vibrancy to her look, Demi's hairstylist also added in a couple of subtle highlights to her locks. These strands are a flattering golden colour and work well in framing her face. “To achieve the highlights Demi has, I would apply babylights diagonally from the middle parting working backwards toward the crown. To maintain healthy hair with increased shine, I would add Redken PH Bonder to the Flash Lift,” added senior colourist Seniz Alkan.
Demi's gentle waves can be achieved using a large curling tong and a spritz of texturising spray
While a hairstylist will be able to nail Demi's gentle waves, the style can be more difficult to recreate at home. To recreate the relaxed vibe, Jack suggests applying L'Oreal Professionnel tecni.art Pli Thermo Fixing Spray onto the roots and lengths of the hair. Then measure out a nut-sized amount of Kerastase Ciment Thermique Thermo-Seal and apply evenly throughout the locks.
“Using a large curling tong, curl the hair in various directions to create Demi's tousled effect,” he explained. “Finish off with a little L'Oreal Professionnel Techni Art Next Day Hair for a textured finish.”
