Lauren Conrad went to the hairdressers over the weekend, and had her ponytail cut off – quite literally. The fashion designer, who is renowned for her long, blonde hair, took to Instagram stories to show a stylist snipping into her ponytail to take the chop. In a second image, Lauren showcased the dramatic results, which shows her hair resting just below her shoulders.

Lauren, who has previously starred in The Hills, is no stranger to experimenting with her appearance, and has been inspiring her followers on social media with Halloween costume ideas. "Need a last minute costume? We put together these looks using only items we already had in our closet (Yes, I actually owned a blonde wig, black lipstick and a bolo tie. I’m honestly not sure why...) Details on laurenconrad.com," she wrote besides a series of dress up images. Ideas included Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld and American Vogue's Editor Anna Wintour, something that went down a treat with fans. "Such a great idea," one wrote, while another said: "Haha if only I had the Chanel bag already in my closet." A third added: "These are so great."

It's been an exciting year for Lauren and her husband William Tell, who welcomed their baby son Liam back in July. Chatting about his arrival to People magazine, Lauren said: "I was convinced I was having a giant baby, to the point where I didn't even buy newborn clothes—in my head he was 9 lbs."

She also knew he would be born after her annual Fourth of July party, adding: "Two days before [he was born], I said to William, 'I don't think he's coming before.' I said, 'I think I'm going to be fine. I really would like to have a Fourth of July party. It's my favourite day of the year. I love Fourth of July. I have this party every year.
