Most of us have made a beauty mistake (or several) over the years – from a bad haircut or a botched dye job to over-plucking our eyebrows. And celebrities aren't immune to them either. Drew Barrymore has admitted on Instagram that she recently ruined her famous blonde locks through over-bleaching – but, luckily, managed to repair her damaged hair with an easily-available treatment. The actress and Flower Beauty founder was recently hosting #beautyjunkieweek over on her Instagram page, during which she shared her favourite products tips and hacks, as well as revealing all about her recent hair nightmare and how she saved it.

Drew posted a photograph of her dyed blonde hair looking dry, damaged and frizzy. In the caption she wrote: "When you get older, bleach is hard on the hair! I wanted to lighten up! But what happened was my hair just didn't respond well this time. A few months ago I lightened my hair and it just looked dead! I [was] sad. Don't I look sad? This picture is sad! I wanted to do something to feel more attractive to myself and it totally backfired."
In a second "after" photo, Drew's hair looks shiny, bouncy and full of lush waves. The Never Been Kissed star explained that hair colourist Tracey Cunningham helped repair her hair using Olaplex – a three-step treatment that claims to repair the hair from within. "Within 3 weeks @olaplex saves me! 20 minutes on clean wet hair!" Drew wrote. "And so quickly my hair is remarkably and clearly better. It's curling and actually bouncing and looking like hair rather than coughed up bird feathers. Thank you @traceycunningham1 for always showing me the way. #findthesolves."

Olaplex doesn't come cheap – a one-off treatment at the hairdresser will cost you from £15 upwards, and the at-home treatment is available online for £32. However, Superdrug is now selling a dupe for almost £20 less, at just £12.99. The high street store's recently-launched PurePlex range features permanent hair colours, shampoos, conditioners and a one-off treatment with a similar technology built-in.
