Music icon Cher has insisted that she will never let her jet-black hair go gray, no matter how old she becomes. The 75-year-old said she has refused to let her natural hair color come through - even during the pandemic.

Cher told People magazine that "[going gray] is fine for other girls" but "I'm just not doing it". Cher's career started at the age of 19 in 1965 as a duo with her then-husband Sonny Bono, and she is known not just for her unique singing voice but for going down in fashion history for the daring clothing and beauty ensembles she's worn since the 1960s.

The pop star and actress has now teamed up with Mac and hip hop star Saweetie for a new campaign that calls on make-up users to put their products to the ultimate test and share the results with the hashtag #macchallengeaccepted.

In one of the promo shots her striking hair has been styled slick straight with a harsh parting, a look that has become synonymous with Cher in recent years.

Her flawless make-up features a sparkling blue and silver eye look paired with thick black lashes and a pale frosted pink lip.

"I can't believe I did so much, actually," Cher added of her career, sharing: "There are few people that have had pictures taken their entire life.

"It comes in handy now. But I liked all [my looks], really. And I made some [decisions] that were ridiculous, but I don't care."

Many of Cher's iconic outfits were designed by her longtime collaborator Bob Mackie.

In 2017 she revealed that she stores all of her costumes in a climate-controlled vault to preserve them for posterity as the historical importance of the costumes is not lost on her.

"They have to be kept in a unit that is the right temperature so the fabrics are preserved," she explained.

"I don't plan to re-wear them, but also my whole life I was 106 pounds, and I haven't been that in a million years! I can't really get into most of them. There's a big difference between 106 and 126 (pounds)."
