One Direction fans have been waiting for weeks to see a photo of Harry Styles' new short hairdo, and now their wish has been granted. Although the 22-year-old has been keeping his hair hidden under a hat in recent weeks, he finally revealed his new look on Monday.
Harry Styles finally showed off his new 'do
It was his sister Gemma who gave her Snapchat followers a first glimpse at Harry's makeover when she posted a photo of the star pulling a funny face as he flexed his arm and posed for the camera. "Independence Day shirt….? No…? Did I…?" Gemma captioned the snap, teasing her brother for accidentally wearing a star-patterned shirt on Independence Day.
However, the photo caused a social media frenzy as it marked the first time that fans had seen Harry rocking his new 'do, a short sideswept look with shaved sides.
The singer's long hair was iconic
After years of rocking long, tousled hair, Harry shocked fans in May when he decided to cut off his locks – but it was all for a good cause. Teasing his Instagram followers with a photo of his hand holding out his chopped ponytail, Harry revealed that he was donating his iconic mane to charity. "Whoops. #Littleprincesstrust," he captioned the snap.
He donated his hair to The Little Princess Trust
The Little Princess Trust is a charity which provides real hair wigs for children suffering with hair loss, and so it can be assumed that Harry used his fame for good by donating his long locks to the cause. According to the charity's site, Harry's post caused their Facebook and Twitter followers to go up exponentially, and people around the world pledged donations after seeing the 22-year-old's generous gesture.
Ellis Lacy sparked confusion with this photo
A few days after Harry's haircut, a photo surfaced of what appeared to be the British star with short hair, but it was soon revealed that all was not what it seemed. Despite being widely shared by fans, the photo was actually of The X Factor contestant Ellis Lacy, who jokingly took a selfie and used a face swapping application to merge his face with Harry's.
Although he had revealed it was a joke, Ellis sparked confusion on Twitter when he shared the photo alongside Harry's Instagram snap of the ponytail. "Harry looks cool now he cut his hair," he quipped in the caption.
