Get fit the fun way with celeb-inspired workouts

January 3, 2013

We didn't need that second serving, nor that extra round of drinks. But we can't punish ourselves – Christmas is a time of indulgence and we were bound to put on a few pounds! Now, however, is the time to repair the damage and attempt to shift those festive pounds. And if, like us, the thought of passing hours on the treadmill bores you senseless, why not take up a new activity in the new year to help you have fun while you get fit? Let's look to the A-listers, who get into shape through a variety of different methods. Victoria's Secret angel Miranda Kerr recently revealed that daily 30-minute yoga sessions help hone her slender 5ft 9inch frame.

"I make sure I do half an hour of yoga in the morning so that then I'm feeling good," the 29-year-old said. "I have been working out quite a bit doing yoga and strength training with weights and resistant bands and I eat super healthy." Yoga classes are available in all Virgin Active Health Clubs. Fellow Victoria's Secret model Adriana Lima, meanwhile, opts for more vigorous workouts. Having just given birth to her second daughter Sienna and with just a few months to get into shape for the lingerie brand's fashion show, the Brazilian beauty took up boxing. She enlisted the help of former boxer Michael Olajide to help her get back into tip top condition and the supermodel revealed that she exercised for six hours a day for five weeks before she made her return to the famous runway.

Other stars hire a personal trainer so their workouts can be expertly tailored. Movie star Gwyneth Paltrow, for example, claims to owe her sylph-like, red carpet silhouette to fitness guru Tracy Anderson. Having got into shape for Iron Man 2, the Hollywood beauty credited Tracy's pilates style workouts with allowing her to "do ridiculous things like be a 37-year-old mother of two and wear shorts". More alternative methods of staying in shape are employed by handfuls of other celebrities. Jennifer Aniston, for example, swears by Bikram yoga, which is practised in a room heated to 40.6°C. Finally, many celebrities are trying out week-long bootcamps to help kickstart weight loss. No1 Bootcamp, in Norfolk, is home to many TOWIE and other TV stars looking to shift the pounds – and quick.
