Ellie Goulding has revealed that she has had to cut down on her time at the gym after discovering she has a heart condition. The 28-year-old admitted she had been "playing with my life" after being told by doctors to get her heart "checked out" but chose to delay it for almost a year.

"I found out I have this heart thing and I need to get it checked out," she told Perth Now. "I'm fine, it's actually something someone discovered last year but I never got it checked out. Which is terrible, I have been playing with my life."

While Ellie enjoys her fitness regime, regularly sharing sneak peeks of her workouts with her 6.7 million followers, the How Long Will I Love You hitmaker confessed that she has been enjoying a more "relaxed" routine.

"It's nice to know you actually can't go to the gym, you're not allowed," she said. "So I have been very relaxed, I have been chilling and not being as militant about what I eat."

The star recently admitted that past years saw her think about food "in a way that wasn't healthy".

"I remember being so badly addicted to sugar that I could eat two big Galaxy bars in one day and nothing else," she told Glamour. "I was terrified of eating potatoes or rice or any kind of carbohydrates but I would still have loads of chocolate every day. It made no sense.

"My friends were so worried about me because I would come to their houses with bars of chocolate and when they'd ask what I'd eaten that day I would tell them, 'Chocolate for breakfast, chocolate for lunch and then an apple and a salad'."

She added: "I definitely thought about food in a way that wasn't healthy and ate in a very extreme way that should have given me diabetes."
