Kourtney Kardashian has explained why she cut gluten and dairy out of her diet

"I have noticed a great positive change in behaviour with my children when we stick to a gluten-free and dairy-free diet," she wrote in a post titled Why and how I made our house gluten and dairy-free. "I don't think everyone needs to eat this way but we had muscle testing done, which showed we all have sensitivities to corn, gluten and dairy."

In the candid post, Kourtney admitted that it was finding the right snacks which proved to be the biggest challenge when she made the dietary overhaul, and while she does try to find healthy alternatives, she occasionally makes an exception for her children to indulge.

Her children are also on the new diet

"It's obviously best to snack on fresh fruit and veggies, but this is not realistic all the time," she explained. "We still need to have a little fun and indulge a little every day".

She later added: "Switching me and my kids to a gluten and dairy-free diet was a big change. Even though I grew up snacking on junk, being able to snack is still important to me—but finding the right snacks that we love has been a challenge."

Explaining that she lets "the kids have popcorn at the movies and a churro at Disneyland", Kourtney revealed that a recent family trip to Italy saw her finding the right balance between ensuring her family stuck to their diet, but also making occasional allowances so her children could make the most of the country's iconic foods.

The family recently enjoyed a trip to Italy

"When we were just in Italy, we all had pizza one night," she wrote. "But for the rest of the trip, I found that almost every restaurant had gluten-free pastas and gluten-free bread. We also had ice cream one evening, but almost every other night we had lemon sorbet for dessert."

She added: "For travel days, we always pack a bag of our favourite snacks so we're prepared".
