Eamonn Holmes makes surprising revelation about weight gain

The presenter worked on This Morning for 15 years

Eamonn Holmes has opened up about the consequences of presenting daytime TV had on his lifestyle, claiming his career led to him gaining weight.

The 61-year-old, who hosted This Morning with wife Ruth Langsford for 15 years, admitted that his early starts on GMTV back in the nineties caused a three-stone weight gain.

"I did 26 years on breakfast TV. It's very ageing. I didn't realise how much it changed my life, your habit and how you are. I was three stone heavier when I was on GMTV than I am now," he told the Daily Star. "The pictures of me in my 30s and 40s, I just can't look at!"

Of the early starts, he added: "You eat more. You get up early and have a bowl of cornflakes at 4am, you get to work and you have a bacon roll then you might eat something on air like a doughnut then you finish at 9am and someone says, 'You fancy some breakfast?'

"Then you have elevenses and you've had six or seven meals before lunch. You are running on adrenaline but your cortisol is all off."

Eamonn, who is now 15 stone, revealed he weighed 18 stone at his heaviest when he was a younger man.

Belfast-born Eamonn kicked off his career at the age of 21 when he joined Ulster Television, the Northern Ireland franchise of ITV back in 1979. A few years later, he went on to present the news for their flagship show Good Evening Ulster.

Eamonn and Ruth hosted This Morning for 15 years

He also co-presented GMTV for twelve years between 1993 and 2005, before hosting Sky News Sunrise for eleven years between 2005 and 2016. Most recently, the TV star fronted This Morning on ITV on Fridays alongside his wife Ruth.

In November, ITV confirmed that veteran the couple would be replaced by Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond on Fridays starting this week.
