Tiger Woods was forced to bow out of the Masters Tournament, one of golf's premiere championships, on Sunday morning thanks to an old injury resurfacing.
The 47-year-old player released a statement early Sunday morning sharing the upsetting news with his fans after a relatively slow start to his play on a rain-filled Saturday in Augusta, Georgia.
The pro golfer released a statement withdrawing from the tournament
"I am disappointed to have to WD this morning due to reaggravating my plantar fasciitis. Thank you to the fans and to @TheMasters who have shown me so much love and support. Good luck to the players today!" he wrote.
According to ESPN, his Saturday play was on the more underwhelming side owing to his injury and inclement weather, putting him at the bottom of the 54 players who'd made the 36 hole cut.

Tiger is one of the most renowned players in the history of the Masters, having won five times between 1997 and 2019, the second highest behind only Jack Nicklaus.
His plantar fasciitis, which has caused him trouble in previous tournaments as well, can be attributed to a horrific car crash from February 2021 in Los Angeles that left him with severe leg injuries and influenced his decision to retire from playing golf full time.
The father-of-two is also in the midst of a legal battle with ex-girlfriend Erica Herman, who is not only suing him to nullify an NDA she signed at the beginning of their relationship, but another $30million lawsuit asserting he violated her right to live at their shared home.
Court documents reveal that Erica is suing both Tiger and his trust, the Jupiter Island Irrevocable Homestead Trust, for violating Florida's Residential Landlord Tenant Act.

The suit was initially filed in October 2022 shortly after the two split, and she noted in the court filing that she has lived in the Florida home since it was purchased.
In it she claims that she was "tricked" by Tiger and his team into moving out. Court documents allege: "Specifically, by trickery, agents of [Tiger] convinced [Erica] to pack a suitcase for a short vacation and, when she arrived at the airport, they told her she had been locked out of her residence, in violation of the oral tenancy agreement and in violation of Florida law."
