Lauryn Hill, 48, shares unfortunate health update as fans come to her defense

The Fugees star was forced to cancel her latest show

Lauryn Hill took to Instagram to share a disappointing update with fans concerning the ongoing The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour: Ms Lauryn Hill & The Return of The Fugees.

The tour is a celebration of the 25th anniversary of her acclaimed 1998 debut (and so far only) album The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill and reunited her with the other members of the '90s hip-hop trio The Fugees, Wyclef Jean and Pras Michel.

The singer and rapper, 48, revealed on social media that she had strained her vocal chords and was forced to cancel the Philadelphia tour stop on Monday night, October 23.

Lauryn shared a statement about the canceled Philadelphia tour stop on Instagram

In a statement, she penned: "Dear Philadelphia, it is with disappointment that I am writing this note to you. On the advice of my physicians, I have no choice but to postpone the show tomorrow." 

She explained that the strain caused to her voice necessitated a break, adding: "I need to rest my voice to prevent any more serious strain or damage to my vocal cords."

Lauryn spoke more about the joy she received being on tour, writing: "The start of this tour has been incredible. What an amazing experience to celebrate this anniversary with all of my family, my friends and all of you.

"I look forward to giving you the show you deserve with a fully recovered and healthy voice," she continued, adding of the postponed show: "The new date for Philadelphia will be Nov 25. It will be a special one. Toronto, I'll see you next. Resting for a few days then heading your way."

The tour will resume in Toronto on Thursday, October 26 and return to the United States soon after, continuing on till December 13 and ending in Boston.

Fans immediately inundated her comments section with concern and prayers, and came to her defense against those who expressed their disappointment.

"She did AMAZING in DC y'all fr like AMAZING. She said she wasn't feeling well and she still rocked it, please give Ms. L some grace," one wrote, while another added: "She left it ALL on the stage last night in DC! We appreciate you! Philly you won't be disappointed, the show is worth the wait."

The Fugees are co-headlining the tour with Lauryn

A third said: "We could hear it in your voice in DC and you apologized for it but you were amazing and left no crumbs," and a fourth also commented: "Get well soon, I was so excited to see you tomorrow [heartbroken] make the November show a good one."

The Miseducation of Lauryn Hill 25th Anniversary Tour comes two years after The Fugees' own 25th anniversary tour for their second acclaimed album, The Score, which was eventually canceled after just one show.
