The highy-anticipated unveiling of The Great Gatsby proved the perfect way to get the 2013 Cannes Film Festival off to a glamorous start. British model Cara Delevingne embraced the evening's vintage theme with a daring black lace Burberry number teamed with dazzling jewels and flawless make-up. Matching a dark, sensuous red lip with a glossy mahogany-coloured manicure, Cara, 20, also kept her famous eyebrows in shape by brushing them upwards with a tinted brow gel.

The model's smouldering smokey eye make-up featured just a hint of iridescent silver sparkle to bring out the brightness of her blue eyes and complement the glittering diamond earrings and necklace she sported for the event. Cara also swapped her regular loosely teased tresses for a more sophisticated blow-dry that left her locks in tumbling blonde curls as she posed in front of the Riviera water. Joining Cara on the red carpet were the film's leading ladies, Carey Mulligan and Isla Fisher. Carey opted for a touch of old Hollywood glamour by wearing her blonde hair in a straight slicked-back style and adding a pop of colour to her look with classic red lipstick. The star also showcased her almond-shaped eyes with a flicker of eyeliner and soft lashes. Co-star Isla kept her make-up fairly neutral for the evening but styled her flowing auburn hair in soft waves to match the layered red dress she wore for the occasion. Despite the evening's dreary downfall of rain, Nicole Kidman and Freida Pinto, stunned spectators on the red carpet with weather-defying hairstyles.

The Slumdog Millionaire star impressed with an intricate braided up-do, while Nicole, who recently starred in the thriller, Stocker, sported an impressive quiff and low-ponytail combination as she posed in front of cameras wearing a dazzling, strapless Dior dress. Nicole also said that the storms that soaked the Cannes Film Festival didn't bother her. 'It's only rain. It's pouring out there but I love the rain. I love it,' she said to reporters on the red carpet. The Australian-born actress finished off her look with a sweep of grey-toned eyeshadow and a slick of sheer pink lip gloss.
