The best nail art from the Emmys

September 23, 2013

Having previously sported tuxedos, television sets and typography to awards ceremonies, Zooey Deschanel is undoubtedly the nail art queen of the red carpet — and she far from disappointed at this year's Emmys. The New Girl star showed off her black and white domino pattern, created by her long-time manicure collaborator Tom Bachik, on her Instagram account.

"Modern geometric art was the inspiration," said Tom. "We wanted something that was really going to pop off the nails to complement her glamorous and formfitting baby blue dress. It's a new interpretation of a 60s look. "Another celebrity showing off nail art on the red carpet was Modern Family star Sarah Hyland. The starlet rocked a 'negative space' look – having a natural or bare area of nail exposed between the polished area instead of a two-toned manicure.

Also opting for the unusual look was House of Cards actress Kate Mara, whose manicure was created by Red Carpet Manicure. "Kate's dress is made of lace and toile with a pattern, so I wanted to create a negative space that mirrored the design on the top of her dress," said Kate's nail artist Kimmie Kyees.

Meanwhile, Girls actress Zosia Mamet decked out her digits in a teal-on-black Ruffian-style pattern. Explaining her nail art, Zosia said, "There's a crescent, dark blue moon that leads into a teal colour. It's a little whacky nail situation!"
