The attention may have been on the fashion at the 2015 Met Ball on Monday night, but that didn't stop stars from Kim Kardashian to Beyoncépulling out all the stops for their hair and beauty looks. Statement head pieces, smokey eye make-up and statement lipsticks were spotted on the world's most stylish celebrities as they played with theme, China: Through the Looking Glass.

All eyes were on Sarah Jessica Parker's dazzling headpiece

No doubt the most-talked about accessory of the evening was Sarah Jessica Parker's show-stopping Philip Treacy Custom headdress, with red and pale blue ribbons and embellishment forming flame-like shapes. The former Sex and the City star showed off her fearless approach to make-up complementing the look with dramatic sweeping pale blue eyeshadow.

Headpieces with floral patterns were one of the biggest trends at the glitzy event. Rihanna chose a bold yellow headdress with red and cream jewels to match her haute couture embroidered cape, while Kate Hudson chose a dazzling statement piece that perfectly matched her golden Michael Kors tulle gown. Fellow actress Diane Kruger also chose a hair accessory, opting for an oversized white flower to complement her chic dishevelled updo.

Amal Clooney, who married actor George last year, could have stepped out of old Hollywood, turning heads as she arrived for her first appearance at the Met Gala. Her glossy black tresses were worn down to the side and styled in tousled waves, and she wore a slick of red lipstick to complement her shimmering red gown.

Meanwhile, model Cara Delevingne showed off her edgy personal style by choosing to cover herself in temporary tattoos of red flowers, branches and birds, a nod to the oriental theme. She completed the look with black smokey eye make-up and wore her brunette locks slicked back into a flawless bun.

Cara was not the only model to cause a stir on the red carpet – Victoria's Secret angel Adriana Lima was virtually unrecognisable as she channelled gothic chic. Her long black locks were worn down in tousled waves, but it was her new fringe that caught the world's attention, as the star debuted her new look on the red carpet. She complemented her new 'do with a slick of dark purple statement lipstick.
