Marilyn Monroe used white eyeliner to complement her blue eyes

Add sea salt to your bath

Sea salt is your skin's best friend – not only does it flush away infections but it leaves your skin silky soft. Try using scented bath salts with a sea salt base, as this will act as an exfoliant leaving you with a glowing complexion, as well as making for ultimate pampering.

Whiten teeth with baking soda

Before super advanced toothpastes, Hollywood starlets used baking soda to get sparkling white teeth. Try adding lemon and peppermint oil to create a paste and then use once or twice a week.

Use a strawberry facemask

The pink colouring of the fruit acts as a natural glow – try adding them to a mixture of mashed banana and honey for a luxurious facemask.

Apply white eyeliner to the inner eyeliner

Use a white pencil to line the inner water line of the eye – a well-known trick used by Marilyn Monroe to make her blue eyes pop. For a playful take on the beauty classic, try pastel-coloured eyeliner with white undertones.

Banish dark circles with mint leaves

Crush mint leaves and leave them under the eyes to banish dark circles for a fresh-faced look.

Spray perfume onto your hairbrush

Try investing in a perfume designed specifically for hair that will nourish it as well as smelling good.

Use eyelid primer for a dramatic eye make-up look

The vintage look was all about dramatic eye make-up – women would apply a thin layer of petroleum jelly over eyelids and cover with neutral skin toned powder up to the brow line and blend a darker shade into the crease for theatrical deep crease impact. Instead of petroleum jelly, use an eyelid primer for a long-lasting look.

Keep skin smooth with cold water

Splash your face with ice cold water in the morning – if you can't bear dousing yourself with freezing water, try mixing together sugar, warm water and lemon juice to cleanse your face for a fresh complexion.

Use olive oil on your hair

Shampoo your hair then apply olive oil to the ends and wrap in a towel for 15 minutes. Rinse with hot water, cleanser and lemon juice to get rid of any residue. If you haven't got time in the morning, try using an oil-based serum on wet hair then leave it wrapped in a towel while you do your make-up.

Use two shades of blusher

A trick credited to Grace Kelly involves using two shades of blusher, a lighter shade on the bone and darker in the hollow. Try using a highlighter on your cheekbones and dab above your brows for the ultimate minimalist chic.
