Fearne Cotton defends make-up free selfie

February 19, 2016

Fearne Cotton has defended a recent no make-up selfie she posted on Instagram. The 34-year-old posted the make-up free photo to promote positive body image, but faced criticism from some fans who felt her use of the hashtag "#celebratetheimperfect" contradicted her message. While the star did receive mostly praise for the candid snap, her critics argued that a face without make-up is not "imperfect" however the blonde beauty once again took to the social media website to clarify what she meant with her 1.3 million followers.

Fearne Cotton recently shared a no make-up selfie

"I just want to make sure that what I was talking about this week is not being taken out of its original context. I don't think there's anything wrong with filters or makeup. I love both," she wrote alongside a black-and-white image of a heart.

"My point is that due to the fact that we can edit ourselves and our lives we have created a culture that is obsessed with pinpointing the supposed imperfect."

She added: "I don't agree there is a vision of perfection but social media is quickly narrowing its views of beauty/perfection and anything outside of this attracts negativity. That's the bit I'm against. What I'm for is celebrating what we have got how ever it looks and embracing others in the same way. #celebratetheimperfect."

Fearne posted the initial selfie on Wednesday, in which she grins for the camera with her blonde tresses styled into two plaits. The radiant TV presenter, who welcomed her and husband Jesse Wood's second child in September, looked as radiant as ever, appearing to be wearing a bikini and T-shirt.

"Ok let's reverse this scene. Who is with me? Our social media culture is getting way out of control with filters/editing/perfect snap shots which are leading to acute pin pointing of so called imperfections," she captioned the eye-catching photo. "I want to celebrate my imperfections and embrace it all. So here I am. No make up, greasy hair, tired mum eye bags, bottom brace, un-plucked brows, and happy. #CelebrateTheImperfect."
